About Us

I am a white woman that recently gave birth to my first child, Thomas.  I have been a bilingual and Spanish as a Foreign language teacher for the past 14 years.  I am very passionate about diversity, dual language, and equity.  Since the conception of my son, my desire to share my love of language and equity for all children has increased beyond measurement.

Here I sit with my 9 week old by my side.  We're both exhausted and our community is dominated by a monolingual paradigm.  I'm full of self-doubt, but know that this little person is the most important student I've ever had.  It is my goal to bring the same fun to learning that I take into my classroom and not be that obnoxious dad screaming and pressuring his child on the basketball court.

For now I will be focusing on sharing the language through reading authentic Spanish books and singing songs.  I will do little speaking in Spanish because is not natural for me to speak Spanish at home.  His father, step-siblings, and grandparents will read to him in English.  It is also likely that my husband (the Information Tech, not a teacher) will teach him to read because he taught both of my step-kids.  I plan to use this blog as a space to share my experiences and for you to share yours.

Thank you for stopping by!
